This was a roof replacement in New Britain. This customer was looking for new roof and gutters on his home. He had issues with Ice damming in the past, so we created a roofing system that incorporated 9ft. of Ice and Water shield on the back of his roof. The customer is very happy with the new roof, and can sleep soundly at night knowing he has a great roofing system over his head.

IT was determined by JP Carroll that the boot around the plumbing stack for my bathroom had deteriorated. They assured me that it was a qucik and easy process, and they scheduled the work with me right then and there. Their technician came out the very next day, and got the work done in under two hours. He knowcked on my door to let me know he had arrived, and came and got me when the work was finished. He was in and out in a very professional manner, and made sure I was happy with the work before he left to move on to his next job. My roof is not quite ready for replacement, but when that time comes, I will certainly be using JP Caroll.

Job Stories From Hartford County, CT
Roofing Project

"I got a quote from three different companies when we decided to replace our roof. JP Carroll's price was not the cheapest but I am glad I spent the extra money. JP Carroll was clean, thorough and helped me through the process from beginning to end. I recommend this company whenever possible because they did such a great job. When replacing something as important as your roof, I wanted a company I could trust rather than just the cheapest price." -Michelle of Simsbury

This customer was very happy that they spend a few extra dollars to get the peace of mind that comes along with a JP Carroll Roof. The cheapest bid on a roofing project is not always the best one, so it is important to weigh all of your options when picking a contractor.

Roof And Gutter Replacement

I would fully recommend JP Carroll Construction to anyone who is looking to replace their roof in Connecticut. I did not take the task of finding a company to handle my roofing needs lightly and did the majority of my due diligence by researching companies online and asking residents in my neighborhood/ town for references. JP Carroll was the favorite for my business at this point in time based on that research but I ended up choosing 3 companies to come out to my house and put together price estimates. This is where my mind was made up as they not only had the lowest overall cost but also the quickest timeline for completion.
Throughout the actual process of tearing out the old roof and installation of the new, all of the workers were very respectful of my family and I and made sure to leave the site spotless at the end of each day. I must admit I did some snooping on the workers from afar throughout the project to make sure they were staying on task and was very impressed at their work ethic and apparent lack of fatigue. It was clear that these guys a) knew what they were doing and b) understood that any breaks they took throughout the day would only delay the project and ultimately delay them from starting a new one. I'm not sure how long the crew had been working together but the efficiency and teamwork was truly eye-opening.

The project ended up being right on budget and completed a half day earlier than projected. The post installation process went just as well as the rest of the project as the site was left looking the same as it was before they arrived (just looking a lot better with the new roof!). There was quite a bit of debris that had collected in the attic and the crew made a point to remove every piece before they departed.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, JP Carroll Construction is simply THE BEST for roofing in the greater Hartford area. Family owned, family operated, and a company you can trust as a member of the Connecticut Roofing Contractors Association.

Roofing Ventilation

Ventilation is a hot topic in the roofing industry, and it often goes forgotten during a roof install. These homeowners in Simsbury, CT lived in a one story ranch with soffit overhangs, but no ventilation entering through the soffits. Their attic space had essentially no way to breath, and it was causing substantial condensation issues inside of their home. Our job was to figure out what could be done, so that this house had proper ventilation.

Our first task was opening up the soffits on the leading edge of the roof. The key to a properly ventilate a home is to have a source of air flow at the bottom of the roof for air to enter into the attic space. Once the air passes through the attic vertically, it needs a place to escape. That is where a ridge vent comes into play. We cut open a 3 inch opening into the solid wood soffit to provide a source where air can enter the attic. After the strip was cut, we installed new vinyl ventilated soffit panels to cover over the exposed wood, and to match the existing siding detail.

Our next task was to install the ridge vent that goes at the peak of the roof. This is the area of the roof where air escapes from the attic space. The cap shingles were removed, and a 3 inch opening was cut at the ridge line to provide an equal ratio for ventilation at the top and bottom of the roof. The ridge vent was installed and the new cap shingles were installed over the new ridge vent.

The Clients' now have a properly ventilated attic space. This is crucial to a properly functioning roof. The attic space will be kept cooler in the summer months, and colder in the winter months. This roof will not suffer the ice dam issues that it has in the past, and it will add on years to the longevity of this roofing system.

Rotted Decking Discovered in Avon, CT

We were hired to strip off and replace a roof that was 25 years old, and was original to the home in Avon, Connecticut. The customer had told us that other roofing contractors had told them that they could just "go over" the existing layer of roofing, which would end up saving them a few bucks. Clearly these contractors did not inspect the attic before quoting out the roof. This house had some severely damaged plywood that needed to be replaced in conjunction with the roofing project. If another layer of shingle had been put down on top of this roof it would have failed much earlier than its rated lifespan. We never recommend going over the top of an existing roof, for this very reason. You can never fully tell the extent of wood rot, until the roof is stripped off, and you can inspect the wood decking from the outside. Another added benefit of stripping the roof is that you are able to put down new ice and water shield barriers and synthetic moisture barriers. These are two vital parts of the new roofing system.

The moral of this story is that stripping off the roof before installing a new one is always your best option.  If you do elect to go over your current roof, please make sure that your contractor does some investigative inspections before getting to work. Remember the building code only allows for two total layer of shingles.
